In 2016, Bob and Pat Kay founded Elite Robotics, fueled by Bob’s years of engineering experience in military systems and Pat’s decades of business leadership. Together, they developed a full lineup of solutions to streamline and simplify the manufacturing processes for many industries.
Sadly, after 45 years of marriage and over 30 years of business partnership, Pat was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2020. This is when daughter Stephanie joined Bob, and the family business shifted from robotics to analytics.
During Pat’s fight with cancer, one of the few things that brought her comfort was the use of CBD and other cannabis products. Stephanie and Bob saw firsthand how remarkable and effective these products were for those with a medicinal need. The father-daughter team made a deep commitment to shaping this burgeoning industry for the benefit of others – while also honoring Pat. By applying their expertise to advancing cannabis product testing, they discovered they could make an even larger impact.
Elite Robotics became Prismal, and Stephanie and Bob began their work on an achievement that will provide families with access to previously unavailable testing data and enable new solutions for industries that need fast test results to make strategic decisions in fast-paced environments.
From detecting PFAs (forever chemicals) in the home, to testing for water contamination in agriculture, Prismal – and its early adopters – stand at the forefront of a new knowledge currency that will empower businesses and consumers alike.
Businesses are more invested than ever in analytics-driven quality assurance and safety.
From a business perspective, Prismal knows that a product safety recall or limited access to testing can dampen productivity, damage a brand’s credibility, and, in a worst-case scenario, lead to irrecoverable losses.
When it’s crucial that your business has access to as much information about raw materials and products as possible – as quickly as possible – Prismal technology can make a significant impact.
We help businesses protect, sustain, and grow revenue by giving them actionable test results to comply with the Food Quality Protection Act, testing for water contamination and PFAs (forever chemicals), and more.
Prismal understands human health and wellness are two of your greatest concerns. Like you, we are worried when reading the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition Adverse Event Reporting System report each year. This report posits that hospitalizations, ER visits, and deaths from the adverse effects of products total in the thousands per year – and that’s only 1 to 10% of cases (the National Institute of Health and the FDA both acknowledge that these effects are well under-reported).
With Prismal technology by your side, you are empowered to take your own samples and get test results for food, water, cosmetic products, supplements and more. Discover what’s in the things you eat, drink, wear, and use, so you can ensure your and your family’s safety.
By harnessing the power of Raman spectrometry with Prismal office, field-ready, and personal devices, businesses and consumers no longer have to worry about inefficient and expensive lab testing. Consumers no longer have to rely on brands to do the thinking for you. In ten minutes, our devices provide the information you need about the composition of the materials you work with, make, sell, and use to ensure they meet your standards.
We’ve already seen how fast, accessible information has changed the world with the advent of the Internet. With Prismal technology, you get rapid information that can change your world.
Raman spectrometry, discovered by C.V. Raman in 1928, is the process of using laser illumination to prompt molecules to react. Each molecule reacts differently to light, yielding its unique fingerprints. Spectrometry enables the user to discover the fingerprints of molecules in the matter you want to test.
The early Raman spectrometers were large, unwieldy devices. Three new Prismal devices, powered by MEMs technology, enable a dramatic simplification for the entire process:
Prismal devices offer these landmark benefits for businesses and consumers:
Businesses no longer need to rely on an outside lab when testing for water contamination, PFAs (forever chemicals), and more. Consumers can conduct their own testing outside of the protections afforded to them by the Food Quality Protection Act. Prismal technology is about providing access to previously inaccessible knowledge that will enrich the lives of those who use it.
Stephanie earned a BA at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, CA. Her background in art and marketing allows her to bring new perspectives to product design and marketing, as well as a deeply rooted ethics to benefit agriculture and human health. Growing up in the Elite Robotics family has always meant a great deal to Stephanie, and she intends to continue her mother Pat’s legacy as she partners with her father Bob for Prismal’s growth.
Bob earned a BS at California State University, Northridge and spent his early professional career working with military weapons systems. Making good on a life-long dream, Bob ultimately founded his own business, Elite Robotics, alongside his wife Pat. Together, they developed a series of solutions for streamlining manufacturing processes. In both his robotics and consulting business, he has been directly responsible for capturing contracts with hi-tech Fortune 100 companies in the global medical, biotech, and industrial spaces. Bob’s experience with fundraising, marketing, operations, business development, and fundraising uniquely positions Prismal for success, from proof-of-concept to market.

Prismal possesses one issued patent and multiple patents pending that cover various features and aspects of the analyzer.
When you use Prismal’s technology to get access to fast, efficient data about the products and materials you grow, make, buy, and use, the knowledge you gain is your currency.
The data you uncover empowers your business and your relationships – you get to decide how, and with whom, you share valuable information:
Let us know how you plan to use Prismal technology by getting in touch.
Heavy metals are not one of the comprehensive list of detectable materials. View the complete list.
The Prismal analyzer can detect Raman-active materials, which include a wide variety of organic and inorganic compounds. Simply “ask Google” if the material you want to test is Raman active.
No chemicals are required for testing. Some samples may require purified water or, in some cases, no sample prep at all.
After the Prismal analyzer determines the molecular structures present in the test sample, the software finds a match in our cloud-based library database.
Users can research local and regional trends in relation to what they’re testing, as well as access to additional resources [earthquake website, water website, NOA website – need more info] to provide context for their sample results and develop a fast, strategic response to their testing data.
